| The three witches were medieval figures. In the play they plot against Macbeth using charms, spells and prophecies. The role of the witches was indispensable for the course of the play. Their predictions prompt Macbeth to kill Duncan, to order the death of Banquo and his son and to blindly believe in his own immortality. They cleraly take a perverse delight in using their knowledge of the future to toy with and destroy human beings. | |
