Exercise 1 p.89

 

  1. After I had seen the film on TV, I read the book.
  2. After he had a shower, he eat his breakfast.
  3. After  she had read a chapter from the book, she went to sleep.
  4. After we had bought some drinks at the bar, we sat down at the table.
  5. After the driver had stopped the car, he got out to look at the engine.
  6. After I had read the form carefully, I signed it at the bottom.

 

Exercise 2 p.89

 

  1. A miser is someone who doesn't like spending money.
  2. This is the street where I lived when I was a child.
  3. Where are the letters which were on my desk?
  4. Look! There's the boy who was dancing at the disco with you.
  5. Mr Dean is the man whose car was damaged in the accident.
  6. This is the present which my uncle gave me.

  1. Have you already seen the film?

Mike told  Jill to hurry up. She told him not to walk so fast because she was tired.

Mike told  her they were late and the film was going to start in a minute.

She asked him why they hadn't taken the car and he answered he had wanted to walk.

 

Ray asked Ann where she  was  going to go for her summer holiday.

She answered that she didn't know.

He said he had had a holiday in Spain the year before, she asked if he had enjoyed it.

He said that it had been fantastic.  

 

Exercise 5 p. 89

 

  1. Alice was going up to her office on the fourth floor when suddenly the lift stopped.
  2. I'm learning how to play the piano. I have already had six lessons.
  3. It was the middle of the night. Everybody was sleeping when the earthquake struck.
  4. Nick was late for school. When he arrived the first lessons had already started.
  5. Peter didn't know who the woman was. He had never seen her before.
  6. I'm not hungry. I've just eaten some sandwiches.
  7. The train left two hours ago.
  8. While Arthur was driving to work he stopped to buy some petrol.

  1. Hurry up! We're going to miss the bus!
  2. After eating the enormous Easter egg I felt sick.
  3. Everybody laughed because the joke was so funny.
  4. In the spring the mountain snow begins to melt.
  5. Captain Cook was the first European  to discover Australia.
  6. I felt very annoyed when I found I had left all money at home.
  7. The stage is the part of the theatre where actors perform.
  8. I don't understand. Can you explain what happened?
