MVrizzi - 2nd Classtest
[author: Manuel Vrizzi - postdate: 2007-10-29]

Task: enter classtest into the web to be aware of mistakes made

OBJECTIVES
Cultural: Learn POST-MODERNISM
Intertextual: POST-MODERNISM IS INTERTEXTUALITY
Linguistic: POST-MODERNIMS IS DIFFICULT SO I NEED TO PRACTICE

Even if Post-Modernism takes lots of ideals from Modernism (as a matter of fact it has the word "post" that means something coming afterwards something else but in the same line of thought), 8 main ideas well express a new cultural current. The changing was necessary because of two principal aspects: social changes and the conceptions of space and time. Modernism mostly developed in the first decades of the 20th century and so we have a very different society from 1st World War to the second one. The conception of space has changed, no one thinks more of his own place and his own reality: we don't live only in Italy: we live in the world, our problems are everybody's problems. The conception of space in Post-Modernism is consequently multidimensional. If in Modernism the way of thinking was based on egoism in which the narrator expressed a lonely point of view and was fixed to present a complex reality, in Post-Modernism we have a new conception of "I" and "me", we have gone beyond the theory of relativity, and beyond the elitarian writing of Joyce to analyze the "mind of writing" its essence, its structure and in the end knowledge expressed in terms of context. Modernism presented a global conception of the historical context, instead Post-Modernism ha a fragmentary way of perceiving reality focusing one by one the most relevant problems of the period and it does this through the re-writing of the past masterpieces. Every fact narrated assumes a different effect in the two currents, as a matter of fact in the first one (modernism) the concept of cause and effect is linear in disaccord with the relativism of Post-Modernism in which a little cause can create a big effect and vice versa.

About discourse it is very simple to indicate the difference between the two cultures: one follows the meaning of the latin word "logos" (which is Modernism) and the second "pathos". There is no more a hierarchy so marked in the world because everyone wants his rights and want to be consider as the others. This created a new perceptions of "good" and "evil".
