FFontana - In lands I never saw - They say
[author: Francesca Fontana - postdate: 2007-10-25]

Text: In lands I never saw - They say
Task: Textual Analysis

Considering the title I expect the poem may be about unknown places that the poetess has never seen but that she imagines by what other people told her.

The poetess says that someone (they) told her about lands that she has never seen: the Alps whose tops are as high as the sky and whose bottoms alook  down to the town. At  the Alps' feet there are daisies moved by the wind and they remind  people playing. She asks a "Sir" which is she and which is he.

The poem is divided into two stanzas, and the rhyme scheme is: ABCB DEFE. Its rhythm suggests tranquillity and serenity. The poetess uses a stylistic choice called Personification: she adds human qualities to something inanimate; as a metter of fact she describes the Alps with bonnets and sandals and also they "touch" and "look" as if they would have hands and eyes.

In the last lines the poetess wants to know about her identity and her personality which is different from other people.
