EVELINE
"Eveline" is a short story by James Joyce that belongs to Dubliners, a collection of stories that betrays the paralysis of Dublin's people. "Eveline" can be divided into two parts: in the first part we can see a girl (Eveline) that don't want to stay in dublin anymore, that wanna be happy with har boyfriend, forgetting her past. This part of the story introduces Eveline like an unhappy girl, that is going to change her life. On the contrary in the second part Eveline thinks about the promise made to her dead mother (she has to look after her family): this promise is too strong for a little Irish to betray. At the end of the story, the reader can bacome aware of Eveline's situation: a situation of weakness, passive obedience.
Eveline is a girl that got dreams, but that does not have the strenght and the heart to do all that could be better to her.
