Textuality » 4A Interacting
"Eveline" is a short story from Dubliners written by James Joyce.
It's a story of adolescence, in particular, the book speaks about a woman, who isn't able to make a decision.
In my opinion the text is organized into two parts:
In the first one, the narrator shows Eveline's thoughts while, she is setting by a window. She thinks about her life and her condition. The novelist uses Eveline's thoughts to introduce the reader others characters, for example her father, a man who is always drunk and violent, her brother, who lives with them and his occupation is to decorate churches or also important dead characters, like her mother.
The second part which is the longest, you can find another important character: Frank (Eveline's boyfriend), the reader is able to under stand his behaviour tanks to a characterization of this protagonist. In this part are explaing all the thoughs about this character and so the story goes on tanks to the relationship between the protagonist and finally there is also the end of the story
