DENOTATIVE ANALYSIS

The first scene from act third is about a dialogue between Hamlet and his mother.

He shows to her the portrait of his father and for each part of the portrait he associates a metaphor which refers to a god.

After that he starts talking about his mother's new husband; he uses similars to compare him to a mildewed ear.

He wants to convey his mother the idea that her new husband is inferior than her former one; he describes him as a "murder and a villain", "a vice of kings" and "a cutpurse of the empire and the rule ".

The mother  transmits a sense of sadness and nostalgia through her words, Hamlet communicates angry and disgust.
