DENOTATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE EXTRACT FROM HAMLET
Hamlet speaks and shows to his mother the portrait of his dead father and his uncle who is now the new king. Hamlet wants to draw his mother's attention on the qualities and virtues of his dead father. He compares him with Greek divinities: Hyperion, Jove, Mars and Mercury. For each part of the portrait he associates a metaphor. So Hamlet gives significance and relevance to his father and he shows to his mother the portrait of her new husband: his uncle. Hamlet criticeses him and asks his mother how she could stay with such a low and despicable person.
After that Hamlet begins to criticese his mother and he shows to her what is happened to her.
Hamlet asks himself how the mother could marry his uncle. The queen doesn’t want to listen to her son because he tells the truth.
