Up to  Hamlet: one of W. Shakespeare's Greatest TragediesUp to task document list

Hamlet shows his father's portrait and his uncle's potrait to his mother. He underlines the difference between the two kings. Infact the first was murdered by the second, who is the actual king and husband of the queen. He wants to focus the mother's attention to the qualities of his dead father. He attributes him qualities that behave to divinities like Hyperion, Jove, Mars and Mercury. With this associations Hamlet communicates the noble heart and personality of the man. In a second time he shows the portrait of his uncle. He is very different from his brother. Infact he attributes him bad epithets and he uses simple expressions that are usually used by the the common people, not noble. He can't understand his mother choice, as a matter of fact he asks her how she could stay with such a low.
