COMPREHENSION
Hamlet describes life using two metaphors ( “sea of troubles” and “outrageous fortune” ) to underline the difficulties and obstacles that every men has to face in his existance. Life makes us suffer and we have always to fight against problems and difficulties.
Hamlet describes death like sleeping; you are totally absent and calm. Problems seems to disappear and you feel relaxed. But sleeping is not the solution for all problems because when you sleep you are not solving your troubles, you only feel better.
Hamlet is going through a crisys, and he is posing himself a question : if he has to be or not to be. He considers if he has to live or if he has to commit suicide. The problem is that he doesn’t know if he has to leave his world or continue to live.
The torment of life are the troubles of love, law’s delay, the insolence of power and authorities, corruption, unworthy people, disdain
We choose go on living because we have to fight against problems, corruption and dishonesty.
Hamlet is pessimistic, maybe angry of the pain of life, corruption and injustices.
INTERPRETATION
I agree with the last interpretation infact Hamlet is thinking about his personal situation and he has to choose if he has to live or die. Hamlet is going through a crisys and he is posing himself a question: if he has to be or not to be. But this monologue has a deep and universal meaning and it is referred to everybody.
An example of repetition is “to die, to sleep” at line 5 – 9 ; Shakespeare uses these repetition to underline his concepts.
An example of antitheses is “to be or not to be” underlines the contraddiction between life and death.
