The closet scene takes part in gertrude's room. This is a dialogue between Hamlet and his mother.
Hamlet invites her mother to focus her attention on his father's portrait because he wants to underline the superiority of his father and this highlights hamlet's esteem for his father. On the other hand he describes his uncle with negative adjectives. He is rebuking his mother, he want her to feel guilty. As a matter of fact right from the start he uses the imperative tense form, in this way the reader understand Hamlet feel as if he is teaching something to his mother.
In the third line Hamlet says " see what a grace was seated on this brow" the choose to connect brow to grace makes the reader understand he wants to underline his father's inners characteristics.
In the SUCESSIVE lines he compares his father to gods. He compares him to Hyperion, one of the Titans, then to Jove which was the god of gods, to Mars, the god of war and to Mercury which was the messenger of gods. In this way he is magnifying the figure of his father. The comparison is totally in favor of his father: as a matter of fact Claudius is not virtuous as his father, ha snot grace, he was not a good warrior, he has no organization. Going on Hamlet tries to makes his mother understand that her husband poisoned his brother
Have you eyes?
Could you on this fair mountain leave to feed,
And batten on this Moor?
Whit these expressions he is asking his mother if she can understand this situation. As matter of fact these can only cause more problem.
Hamlet uses an high register because he belongs to aristocracy . he uses lots of metaphors and similes.
