A gang of fourteen robbers had broken into a bank in Naples.
They were hoping to steal millions of dollars from the safe but the men had an unpleasant surprise.


A Detroit burglar arrived home after a ''sucessful'' night. He had been shocked when a few seconds later he opened the front door and saw his very happy dog... and the police.


Neighbours in the city of Baku could hear music coming from an empty flat and decided to call the police. When the police had arrived, the thief didn't even try to escape.

A con is when someone believes a criminal's lies and gives him money.
A person who makes realistic copies of money, documents,etc. Is a forger.
When something causes arguments, we say it is controversial.
To flee is to escape quickly, especially when you are in danger.
To hand over something is to give it to another person.

Skimming to understand the general idea of a text.

Finding the main idea of a paragraph.
Read the first sentence which often summarises the main point. Look for the key words.
Scanning to find specific information.
Underline the key words in the questions, find synonyms and similar expressions in the text, and read carefully around the key words.
