Adolescence psychology                                            summary

The text talks about adolescence psychology and the most frequent changes in the adolescent’s behaviours.

Adolescence (or teenage period) goes from 13 to 19 years old. It is a period of physical and psychological development and adolescents are usually nervous and unsteady. In this period the adolescent develops his intelligence, memory and his logical and understanding abilities. But this development is accompanied by some typical adolescence problems. They are:

- Emotional tensions. The adolescent is very sensitive and sometimes he is in moods, even if this should be a period of joy and happiness.

- Personal appearance and social adjustment. The adolescent is worried about his appearance: his group feeling is at maximum and he wants to be accepted. The most difficult thing for him is to find his role in a peer group.

- Emancipation and economic independence. The adolescent wants to be free and not to be under his parents’ oversight. This is because he often starts to show an ego centred behaviour (even if this behaviour can change according with the adolescent’s character). Economic independence is a way to affirm his own decisions and try to seek identity to himself.

Adolescents seem to be reluctant to have defined rules or study habits.
