WHY I AM PROUD OF BEING AN ADOLESCENT
I think you can't be proud of being an adolescent. Adolescence is a period of life. Everyone has been, is or will be an adolescent. But if you can't be proud of being an adolescent, you can be happy of it. I'm happy of being an adolescent. In spite of all the problems and changes which happen in this period, I would never want to go back to my childhood neither I would want to become grown-up at once. It is a period, with no doubts, troublesome and with lots of problems. You aren't a child any more and you have to start to take responsibility for your own actions, but with bounds which are often too narrow. You often quarrel with your parents, whose control you want to get out of but from whom you have to depend, economically and not. Moreover friends and peers become part of your life too. You spend most of your time with them and share your ideas. These ideas are however different from your parent's ones and so you clash with the other way of thinking and you feel intolerant and lost. This happens because if a few years earlier you got on very well with your parents, now you quarrel with them almost everyday. But there aren't only problems with others. Your mind opens to new ideas and thoughts, which you only perceived marginally before. Growing up you become aware of many aspects of your life and of the surrounding world. You perceive the importance of this and it makes you feel lost once more. You wonder if what you think is right and if you'll ever manage to adjust this world. So you think about what you'll do when you'll be a grown-up. You think about your childhood dreams and wonder if you'll succeed in realizing them, because now you are conscious of all the difficulties you might face during the way. There is also an important emotional instability. If at a moment you're happy, a few minutes later you may be very sad, because of a word or somebody's behaviour which have made you suffer but which might be of no importance in another moment. So during adolescence you're at the mercy of your feelings, your fears, your thoughts and your duties. So you may wonder why you should be happy of being an adolescent. I think because right in this period you reach maturity and grow up. This period is necessary, your thoughts increase and make you understand how the world is. If you refuse to grow up it would be as if you wanted to see only a part of the world, which is easier and nicer. But without looking at the "dark side of the moon" on the other side, without difficulties and the awareness that not everything can be as you like, you can't truly live and become grown-up.
