Johan Milton - Paradise Lost

 

Jhon Milton was an English civil servant. He was Puritan and he is one of the major figures in English literature who also advocates freedom and intellectual liberty. John Milton most important epic poem is Paradise Lost, a poem about men's disubbidienza to God. Paradise Lost was published in 1667, it is about Heaven, Hell, primordial chaos, the creation of the world and Adam and Eve's drama of temptation and fall. God is considered the true love, he represents the reference point. The relation between God and men shuld be direct.
In this poem characters are confronted with difficult choices under the pressure of strong desires and trepidations. In order to Milton people can choose what to do, but they have to use their brain before take a decision and they have also to accept the consequences.

 

Why was lost paradise?
Archangel Satan disobeys God, he likes power and like who looks only for it, he forget the world around. (people are soggetted by power, they go beyond the rules)

 

Adam and Eve :

-they disobey God

-they follow the temptation

-they eat the apple, symbol for knowledge
