The sonnet is a lyrical form of poetry that means it speaks about private and personal feelings. The sonnet was firstly used by Francesco Petrarca an Italian poet. the sonnet was organised into an octave and a sestet. The octave had the function to pose the problem and the in the sestet the poet tried to solve it. When the first English sonneteer tried to translate it from Italian into English he noticed that the two languages were too different. For this reason he elaborated and adopted the Italian sonnet. The English one was organised into three quatrains and a rhyming couplet. In this way the problem was posed in three different points of view.
