BROOKLYN. A REVIEW
'Brooklyn' is a novel by Colm Toibin. The main charcter, Eilis Lacey, comes from Enniscourthy, a small Irish town where she lives togheter with her sister Rose and her mother.
There she can't shape her future because of the hardships of the time.
She decides to move to New York thanks to the help a priest. Althought the story takes place in the early 50ies, the writer uses a contemporary style to tell about a past story. In addition, he tells about Eilis as a migrant who wants to move far away.
(Nowadays a lot of young people choose to leave their country because life is too hard and want to shape a better future.)
(The novelist is inspired by the mentality of Puritanism even if it has some different from the Irish one.)
I think that Eilis' voyage is told very clearly by the writer because he communicates all his characters feelings. (In closing my argumentation)
I wuold suggest to read 'Brooklyn'. If you read the novel you realize how many difficolties you have to overcome when you leave your home and try to start a better future somewhere else
