BROOKLYN - COLM TOIBIN
Negative Review
Last summer I read "Brooklyn" by Colm Toibin. Despite it might sound a beautiful simple story of love and immigration, it goes on and on with anything stimulating or dramatic, even if its main aim should be to show the most relevant Second World War's consequences in Ireland.
Indeed, the novel is too long for native readers.
What's more, it has been presented as a magnificent and unforgettable story by many relevant journalists, it has also won the "2009 COSTA Novel Award", but in my opinion it is just a mainstream story written in a summarized way without any authentic detail or intensity that you would expect reading the plot.
The novel is boring and the nostalgia is not conveyed.
In some parts it develops too quickly, and the reader continuously pops in new situations.
I really dislike the experience of opening a fresh book and getting so bored reading through it. I didn't enjoy "Brooklyn". I find it insignificant.
