WW1 Monuments and Memorial

Right from the introduction of the text “WW1 Monuments and Memorial” I supposed that the writer wants to let the reader realize a negative aspect of the war because he connotes the Great War of 1914-1918 as “terrible”.

Going on to analysing the text, I understand that my expextations were right indeed the writer defines the war like a tragedy and, in particular, he underlines that, after the World War I, thousands of families around the world were affected by the tragedy of the wounding loss of one of their own, and also, some villages and towns on the battlefield areas were raveged.

The writer goes on describing the function of the memorial and I understand that in the text emerges a positive idea of peace because he thinks that the purpose of the memorial is to preserve the memory of the people involved in the fighting and to preserve the heroism of all warriors who died to save their country.

Such was the nature of the war: towns and villages in many parts of the world were directly affected by the loss of servicemen.

In conclusion, I think that in the text emerges a negative idea of the war because it is connotated as devastating, terrible and tragic.
