I guess you prefer the Piaggio.

Well, no, actually. The Honda is much more fun to ride.

Exercise 4 page 241:

  1. Doctors at a hospital in London treated a man yesterday after he inhaled fumes from a pair of socks. The man feel asleep while the socks were drying on electric fire.
  2. A woman from Cleveland, Ohio is talking a furniture store to court. Barbara James, 36, is claiming 50,000 damages after she was injured when she was knocked over by a child who was running’ out of control’ around the store. A woman claims that FurnitureWorld’s staff did nothing to stop the child’s behaviour. A spokesperson for FurnitureWorld says the company rejects the claim because the seven-year-old child, Toby James, is actually the woman’s son.

Exercise 5 page 241:

  1. And does the hotel have a car park?
  2. Yes, there’s an underground car park.
  3. Does the price include breakfast?
  4. Yes, breakfast is included in the price.
  5. OK, great. And there is a swimming pool or a gym?
  6. There’s a/the gym, but we don’t have the swimming pool. There is a swimming pool nearby, though-about five minutes’ walk from the hotel.
  7. Does the hotel have wi-fi in the rooms?
  8. Yes, you can get it in all the rooms.
  9. Is there a charge for wi-fi?
  10. No, it’s included in the prince.

Exercise 3 page 243:

  1. Hi Bill,

We’ve been here in the UK for two weeks now and we’re having a fantastic time. We’re in London at the moment. We’ve been visiting the famous London sights. We’ve been to Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Natural History Museum and we went on the London Eye this morning. Oh, and we went for tea at the Ritz Hotel yesterday. It was very nice! This afternoon, we’re going to go for a walk along the River Thames. Before London, we were in Scotland for a week. The Scottish Highlands were really amazing and we walked part of the way up the Ben Nevis, which is the highest mountain in the UK. We’re going to Brighton tomorrow for a few days. Hopefully, we’ll spend some time on the beach, but I don’t think the English Channel will be as warm as the Pacific back home in California! Anyway, see you next week and hope all’s well,

Exercise 1 page 244:

No. Just milk, thanks.

  1. Could you pass me the sugar?

Yes, sure. Would you like the milk?

  1. What’s music your sister’s listening to in her bedroom?

You should know, you’re always listening to music.

Well, yes, but not the music your sister likes listening to. I prefer sixties music – you know, bands like Pink Floyd and The Doors.

  1. Do you play computer games?

Not really. I prefer watching films or reading when i have free time. What’s game you’re playing at the moment? It looks quite interesting, actually.

  1. I don’t think the teachers get paid enough.

I agree. It’s a difficult job, and teachers in our school are brilliant.

  1. As a child I used to love reading a books about space.

Yes, i think all children are interested in that. I used to be really interested in dinosaurs.

Exercise 2 page 245:

  2. He’s in prison for three years for burglary.
  3. The park is behind the church.

  5. I’m exhausted. I’m going to bed.

  1. Who invented the television?

John Logie Baird in 1926.

  1. Adolphe Sax invented the saxophone in 1846.
  2. When and where was the paper money first used?

In abut 900, in China. Coins were used for many years before that.

  1. Douglas Engelbart invented the computer mouse in 1970. It got its name because Engalbert thought it looked like the animal.
  2. Who invented microscope?

Zacharias Janssen in the 1590s.

  1. Jeans were invented by Levi Strauss in 1850.
  2. Did the Egyptians invent the paper?

No, it was a Chinese man called Ts’ai Lun in about 100 AD.

  1. Does pasta come from Italy?

No, it originated in China about 4,000 years ago.

  1. Honest is the best policy.
  2. Actions speak louder than worlds.

Exercise 1 page 246:

  1. We stayed in a hotel in the centre of London.
  2. It’s raining. Have you got an umbrella?
  3. It takes about an hour to get to the airport.
  4. Do you wear a uniform at your school?
  5. Have you got a euro? I need it to buy some water.
  6. We sailed around the Greek islands in a yacht.
  7. My mum’s an artist. She paints portraits, mainly.
  8. I’m getting an overnight flight to San Francisco. It takes about 12 hours.

Exercise 2 page 246:

  1. How long is the border between the United States and Canada?

It’s 8,891 kilometres. It’s the longest border in the world.

  1. When was the aeroplane invented?

At the beginning of the twentieth century. I think the first flight was made by Orville and Wilbur Wright in 1903.

  1. Did you go to the British Museum when you were in London?

Yes, we did. And what an amazing place! I love museums, and that has to be one of the best.

  1. Excuse me. I’m looking for King Street.

OK, turn left at the crossroads and you’ll see a small park on your right. Take a second right after the park. Hat’s King Street.

  1. What did you study at university?

I studied tourism and languages. When I finished, I got a job at the Hotel Central in Paris for a year.

  1. When I was a child, I used to love reading books about space travel.

I always wanted to be an astronaut.

  1. Did you enjoy your holiday in Spain?

Yes, I did, thank you. Our hotel was lovely and the food was delicious. We got used to eating quite late! The Spanish have lunch in the afternoon – at about three.

And they have dinner at about ten at night.

  1. Do you know what the exchange rate for a euro is?

I’m not sure. Why don’t you look on the internet?

  1. Do you play a musical instrument?

Yes, I play the guitar. I’m also learning the drums.

  1. We flew over the Alps on the plane back from the UK. We got a fantastic view of the Mont Blanc.

Nice. I love looking out of the window in planes. You see the world so differently.
