Considering theese some pages from 169 to 177, the reader should understand Eilis' s reaction on her sister's death. While Eilis was working at Bartocci's, Miss Fortini tells Eilis to follow in the office. The writer uses both of telling and showing tecnique so the reader has multiplicieties points of view to understand better the storyline.

Miss Fortini invites the girl to speak with Father Flood about someone in her family.

Indeed, the novelist through the showing tecnique mentiones a piace of news but it always divert. In addition, Eilis walks alonge a long corridor which enphasizes the curiosity of the reader.

Therefore he/she becomes more inquiring and wants to continue to read the novel.

The third person narrator through the telling tecnique shows to the reader Eilis's point of view. She is scared and thinks about her mum's heartattack or her brothers' accident. But when she discovers Rose's death she is shock, because Rose was the only person who hadn't thought.

Rose's character is more relevant in the economy of the novel because she is the deus ex machina. She is a dynamic person who has the power in Eilis's house. She takes care of their econimic situation. When she dies, Eilis loses a model.

Indeed she feels very confused and doesn't understand what her friends say. When Father Flood announces Rose's death, he creates an intimate situation like a father that is communicated by the showing tecnique.

Beside, when she reads Rose's letters again, she appreciates her handwriting. The reader probably supposes that Eilis feels remorse to see Rose never more thanks to her point of view. It highlights her sadness and her regret.
