Last section of chapter three
The last section of part three is particular relevant in the economic of the novel but even to understand Eilis’s feelings.
There are multiple reasons for the section to be particularly significant: first of all there is Eilis’s conversation with her mother, follow by the implications of the news of Rose’s death in her relationship with Tony (her boyfriend), to continued with the contest and the effect of Eilis’s brother’s letter and last and not least the consequences of Father Flood’s opinion were the two character are showed in action.
The conversation between the two women is really important because there is showed Eilis’s mother feelings and also another aspect of Eilis: her disbelief to Rose’s death.
All the communication is managed to Father Flood, indeed there are lots of reference to the church, and also he influences Eilis and her behaviour. Also the relationship between Tony and Eilis is influence by Father Flood and Rose’s death. Indeed after Eilis’s sister death the things between them accelerate.
The peak is reached with Eilis’s brother’s letter, which convince her to return back home for her mother. As a sequence Tony was afraid to lost her and they get married.
In all these events Eilis feels mislaid, and she lives all passively.
