Use the present perfect to talk about events that are connected with the present or have results in it. Example: I’ve done my homework. Can I go out now?

Use the past simple to talk about events started and finished in the past, where the exact time is important. Example: Kevin visited London in 2009. he had a great time.

Use time expressions such as when, ago, last week, etc. with the past simple to talk about an exact moment in the past. Example: When did you meet her? I met her two days ago. NOT When have you me her? I have met her two days ago.

Go has two past participles: been and gone. Been means travelled to and returned. Gone means left and not returned yet.
