Ex. 1) Read what you must and you mustn’t do at school. Make imperatives.
- You must listen to the teachers. > Listen to your teachers!
- You mustn’t be noisy. > Don’t be noisy!
- You mustn’t cheat. > Don’t cheat!
- You must sit at your desk. > Sit at your desk!
- You mustn’t be late. > Don’t be late!
- You must write test. > Write tests!
- You mustn’t bully your classmates. > Don’t bully your classmates!
- You must pay attention. > Pay attention!
Ex. 2) Rewrite the sentences in imperative. Keep the same meaning.
- He should have a job. > Let him have a job
- We mustn’t stop now. > Let us not stop now!
- You must go to bed. > Go to bed!
- You should get up early. > Get up early!
- You mustn’t stand here. > Don’t stand here!
- She can have a drink. >Let her have a drink!
- They must clean the carpet. > Let them clean the carpet!
- We needn’t wait for him.> Don’t have a drink!
- We must have a shower first.> Let us have a shower first!
- You can’t park in this street. > Don’t park in this street!
- You must be here soon. > Be here soon!
- They should taste this cake. > Let them taste this cake
Ex. 3) Rewrite the imperatives in statements. Use the verbs in brackets.
- Do be quiet. (must) > You must be quiet.
- Let me finish it first. ( would like) > I would like to do it first.
- Repair your roof. (should) > You should repair your roof.
- I’ll dust the furniture and you hoover. (can/can) > I can dust the furniture and you can hoover.
- Let’s not go on foot. (should not) We shouldn’t go on feet
- Drive slowly, will you? (must) > You must drive slowly.
- Don’t be angry. (mustn’t)> You mustn’t be angry.
- Hurry up. (must) > You must hurry up.
- Let them make an experiment. (can) > They can make an experiment.
- Do not touch the screen. (must not) > You mustn’t touch the screen.
- Do not let us worry about it. (need not) > We need not to worry about it.
- Let us see them tomorrow. (could) > We could see them tomorrow.
- Come to my birthday party, will you? (must) > You must come to my birthday party.
Ex. 4) use shall we or will you to make the imperatives more polite.
- Give it to your mum. > Give it to your mum, will you?
- Let us forget about it. > Let us forget about it, shall we?
- Let’s think about it. > Let’s think about it, shall we?
- Be kind to her. > Be kind of her, will you?
- Let us have a break. >Let us have a break, shall we?
- Take the car to the garage. > Take the car to the garage, will you?
Ex 5) Use do or you and the words in brackets to make urgent imperatives.
- I don’t have my credit card. (pay) > You pay.
- You needn’t to be afraid of the exams. (Try it) > Do try it.
- I’m not going to inform her. (tell) > You tell her.
- Why should I carry the luggage? (take it) > You take it.
- Why don’t you want my money? (take it) > Do take it.
- You are so noisy! (be silent) > Do be silent!
Ex. 6) Make imperatives.
- The/you/ladder/will/fetch > Fetch the ladder, will you?
- Him/it /try/let/again > Let him try it again!
- Use/umbrella/do not/ my/him/let > Do not let him use my umbrella!
- First/the/take/on/right/the/turning > Take the first turning on the right!
- Mistake/us/not/make/let/a > Let us not make a mistake!
- Do/seatbelt/your/fasten > Do fasten your seatbelt!
- Quickly/it/you/will/do > Do it quickly, will you?
- About/protest/let’s/don’t/it > Do not let’s protest about it!
- Car/my/in/jump > Jump in my car.
- Tell/things/me/such/don’t > Don’t tell me such things!
- Ask/it/do/about/her > do ask her about it!
