Now I am going to analyze the first and the second scene of Anthon and Cleopatra, a tragedy written by Shakespeare.

The first scene is set into Cleopatra’s palace. The first scene opens with the dialogue between Philo and Demetrius, his two friend, that create a portrait of Antony. In the first lines of the dialogue Antony is described as Mars when he fought. We know that he was the god of war, so it creates a positive judgment into the audience. But “tawny front”and “tgyspy lust” creates a negative judgment. For roman people she is not civilize (because tawny front means all her body). So the audience makes up a personal opinion about Antony. Instead Cleopatra is characterize as a pearson that is not civilize, so the judgement in negative. Antony and Cleopatra enter and they start talking about their love, that will be the cause of the protagonists’ death. So Shakespeare wants to capture the audience’s attention introducing the contrast among love and war. Indeed his wife Fulvia is dead and so he must return to Rome. It is a reference to the cultural and historical period in which the play is set, otherwise the period of civil wars in Rome.
