1) During the Victorian age, for the first time there was a communion of interests and opinions between writers and their readers. One reason for this was the enormous growth in the middle classes, who were avid consumers of literature.

2) A great deal of Victorian literature was first published in instalments in the pages of periodicals, which allowed the writer to feel he was in constant contact with his public.

3) Novelist wanted to reflect social changes, the struggle of democracy and the growth of towns.

4) They depicted society as they saw it. 

5) Social novels, humanitarian novels, psychological novels.

6) Realistic explorations of daily lives and values of women the family and the community.
