Exercise 1

1)No, I have never been to New York.

2)Yes, I would like to go there because it’s a big city in the USA and I want to see the differences from Italian cities

Exercise 2

1)You can find expensive shops down Fifth Avenue.

2)You can get fresh air and see some animals in Central park.

3)You can see a painting on a ceiling at the Grand Central Station.

4)You can see an enormous present from France on the Staten Island Ferry.

5)You can look at some penguins at the New York Aquarium.

6)You can learn about the History of the US population on Ellis Island.

7)You can travel for free and see the sights at the Empire State Building and at the 70th floor of the Rockefeller Center.

8)You can listen to musicians in the open air in Washington Square.

Exercise 5a

In a two days holiday I would:

-      go on the Empire State Building

-      go on Staten Island Ferry

-      visit the Cathedral of St John the Divine

-      go to Central Park

Exercise 5b

Day 1: we are going on the Empire State Building because it’s one of the highest buildings of the world and there is a nice view of the city and then we are going to Times Square because it’s unique for its electronic signs and for new year.

Day 2: we are going on Staten Island Ferry because there you can see the Statue of Liberty and finally we are going to Central Park because it’s a wonderful, huge park in the middle of the city.

Exercise 6

3 days in Rome

Day 1: Start your visit with a tour of the Colosseum, symbol of Rome, its real name is Flavian amphitheater (Anfiteatro Flavio), it was used like a stadium where bloody spectacles were held. Than you can visit Piazza Venezia, where you can admire the Vittoriano, majestically construction dedicated to the unity of Italy and the “Milite Ignoto”. After you can visit the “Capitolini” museums, that represent the oldest public museum of the world.

Day 2: Vatican city and visit at the “Basilica di San Pietro”, where you can see beatiful decorations and a massive architectonic structure. In front of the “basilica” the San Pietro square extends and at its end you can reach Castel Sant’Angelo, that is the ancient fortificated fortress of the pope, built in the Middle Ages. Not very far deserve a visita t the tresures guarded in the Vatican.

Day 3: Rome it’s a city full of art that you can see walking around the streets and the most famous squares of the city. Piazza di Spagna with its flight of steps of Trinità and the fountain of the Barcaccia at its feet make particullary suggestive the beauty of this place. Just ahead you can find Trevi fountain, that rappresents the biggest roman founatin and you can reach it throught tiny streets that increase the majesty of this piece of art. The Pantheon is one of the most famous symbols of Rome and it’s the most well preserved ancient monument of the capital and it’s characterized by the biggest dome concrete in the world and from its marble interior.
