IDENTITY

In Exit West there is an opposition between two identities: Saeed and Nadia. He represents tradition and she represents independence.

CULTURE AND TRADITION

This is one of the most important themes of the novel. Saeed tries to recuperate his identity through prayer. Instead Nadia didn't pray, didn't "respect" her culture and her tradition.

LANGUAGE

Hamid writes long sentences. Indeed he doesn't uses the traditional English language.

LOCATION OR SENSE OF DISPLACEMENT

Hamid presents this theme in chapter XI, when Saeed and Nadia arrived in London.
