EX. H PG. 51

That day I couldn't imagine that such an event that could ever happen to me on my way home.I had always heard and read of the increase of delinquency and gangs of youngsters roaming the streets. However, only when I came upon such a baby gang, I realized how a teen like me could feel.

One afternoon I had courses at school, so I went home for dinner rather than lunch. The road I always used to go was closed for a demonstration, so I took a secondary street,  that goes across a degraded neighbourhood. When I was there I was immediately seized with fear because I knew that in such areas there are often baby gangs and criminals.

To make matters worse, at that very moment I saw a gang coming in the opposite direction shouting loudly and giggling. They stared to me and then turned to talk to each other, but I didn't understand what they said because they didn't speak Italian. I felt my heart pounding wildly.

Suddenly I saw a police patrol coming towards me. The gang spread in all directions and a policeman asked me “Are you okay?”. “Yes” - I answered - “Thank you very much!”. “I was only doing my duty, girl” ended up the man. I couldn’t believe my luck and I sighed with relief.
