Changez ,the protagonist of The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid, is the more complex character in the novel.

He is a Pakistani man who left his homeland in order to attend Princeton University, based in the USA.He follows the American dream

He is a brilliant student and after the graduation he's hired at Underwood Samson, a prominent financial firm.

Changez is the narrator of the whole novel and he can be considered a round character: indeed he shows a parabola during the novel. The tale is arranged in different levels of reflection, because of the evolution of Changez : he turns out in a more philosophic behaviour. The character's name adopted by Mohsin Hamid isn't casual: indeed Changez reminds the word change.

The change brings to surface  Changez's attitudes. At first he believes in the American Dream, while after disappointing situations,in which he faces racism and discrimination towards his origin, he turns against American capitalistic model.

The characterisation implies also a physical description of Changez. His physical appearence is related to his evolution through the novel: he decides to grow his beard to refuse american conformity.
