One Art If you look only the title, you might think that the poem might be about art, about a specific type of art. The poem is composed by five stanzas of three lines each, while the last stanza is made of four lines. The rhyme scheme is ABA, and ABAA in the last stanza. There is a kind of refrain: “The art of losing isn’t hard to master”. It opens the poem and is repeated in other stanzas. The poem is written with everyday words, its interpretation requires careful reading. The speaker is talking about how easy it is to lose things and loved ones, due to distraction, loss of memory, lack of time, the end of love, or death. The impression while reading feld sadness, sorrow, a sense of loss and ironical resignation. |
