Dad proposes a toast, then wishes everybody a happy new year and, starting with Frances, asks the family theirs new year’s resolutions.

Frances says she’s going to look for a new job. Afterwords she asks her brother Ian what’s he’s going to do with his life. The mother asks him the same question and he says he’s going to stop biting his nails. The mother suggests him to start working harder for college. She also suggests him to start looking for universities. He respond annoyed by agreeing with her.

Mum reminds the family about Frances’ twenty-first birthday. The daughter reminds them about Ian’s eighteenth birthday. Ian proposes to have a joint party. Frances suggests to do it at an hotel, but the father thinks it’s too expensive. The father proposes the school hall. Ian doesn’t want to go there. Dad continues by saying that by hiring the school hall they could more money for the band. Everybody proposes a different type of band but then Ian asks his father if he has any suggestions. He suggests the Cat Fish Brothers and everybody agrees with him. Afterwords the mother asks about the number of guests. They decide to invite around so people each, even uncle Rob. Ian thinks his is really funny and that he’s not like his mother. At the end the father thinks that this is going to be his most expensive year.
