Analysis of “One Art”

“One Art” is arranged in 6 stanzas of three lines each, while the last stanza has got four lines. The structurer of rhymes is: ABA, ABA, CBA, ABA, DBAA.

I imagine the title “One art” refers to an ability very useful in the life. The art the poetess is talking about is losing things. Probably she compares this action whit an art because it needn’t big efforts.

In the poem she justified her statement with examples taken from the life, as loss of keys, names and places. She said lots of times losing things is not a disaster, but when you are reading the poem you feel a sense of impotence and ironical resignation.

I think the message is accept losing things because in the life you will also lose parents, relatives and friends. This art develops as the time goes losing the smallest things, until you will do it without thinking.
