Analysis of the poem “I Look into my Glass”

The title

Reading the title without reading the poem, I aspect the poem may be a lirical poem because it focus attention on something personal and I aspect it might be connettive with time.

Moreover, since the first line corresponds to the title, this poem is certainly part of a collection.

The layout

Considering punctuation, the poem is arranged into three stanzas. The first one begins in the first line and it ends in the fourth line; the second one begins in the fifth line and it ends in the eighth line; the last one begins in the ninth line and it ends in the twelfth line.

Structure

The layout makes me understand that it is a poem, being arranged into stanzas thanks to the punctuation.

Theme

The speaker is talking about the reaction of growing and how one feels when he gets older.

Keyword

The keywords of this poem are related to time and they are: “come to pass” to the third verse, “for than” to the fifth verse, “grown” to the sixth verse, “endless” to the seventh verse, “time” to the ninth verse, “fragile frame” and “eve” to the eleventh verse and “noontide” to the twelfth verse.

Figures of speech

At the eleventh verse “fragile frame” is an alliteration since there is a repetition of the letter “F”.

At the end of the poem there is a metaphor indead at the eleventh verse the word “eve”, which means “evening,” means the evening before the night, that is the old age before the death.
