Geordie

Taking the title into into consideration, I expect the poem may be about a man called Geordie. The poem is organized into seven stanzas, divided by spaces, and all the stanzas are quatrets. The speaking voice says that while walking through London Bridge, he heard a woman crying for her man. The woman began to say that Geordie will be hanged with a golden cord and pray for him. Then there is the dialogue between her and the judge who answers the girl's pleas by saying that she can not forgive Geordie. In the end it is understood that the woman could not do anything for Geordie. It is interesting to note the different use of verbal tenses within the poem to understand the moods of the lady. The imperative alternates, with which he begs forgiveness for Geordie, endless sentences to express the desire to convince the judge, the conditional present to say that he would do anything for Geordie, and at the end, when he speaks of the certainty that he will be hanged use the present simple , which indicates states that do not change.
