Analysis of the poem “I Look into my Glass”

Reading the title without reading the poem, I aspect the poem may be a lirical poem because it focus attention on something personal and I aspect it might be connettive with time.

Moreover, since the first line corresponds to the title, this poem is certainly part of a collection.

The layout makes me understand that it is a poem because each line starts with a capitol letter, because it is arranged into three stanzas and thanks to the punctuation.

Each stanza hah four lines, called quatrain in which is used the jambic pentameter.

Considering punctuation, the poem is arranged into three stanzas. The first one begins in the first line and it ends in the fourth line; the second one begins in the fifth line and it ends in the eighth line; the last one begins in the ninth line and it ends in the twelfth line.

The speaker is talking about the reaction of growing and how one feels when he gets older.

The keywords of this poem are related to time and they are: “come to pass” to the third line, “for than” to the fifth line, “grown” to the sixth line, “endless” to the seventh line, “time” to the ninth line, “fragile frame” and “eve” to the eleventh line and “noontide” to the twelfth line.

In the ninth line the word “time” is written in capitol letter because it is a keyword and because the poet wanted to focus the reader’s attention on this word.

In the first stanza the poet introduces the old age, in the second one he introduces a meditation about the death and in the last one the subject is the time.

At the eleventh verse “fragile frame” is an alliteration since there is a repetition of the letter “F”.

At the end of the poem there is a metaphor indead at the eleventh verse the word “eve”, which means “evening,” means the evening before the night, that is the old age before the death.
