The poem was written without scheme and it is unrhymed, in total it has got four stanzas of different lenght. The most important thing that the poem is a drammatic monologue.

The poem tells about the figure of Ulysses, the poet toke inspiration for this character from the epic poem Odyssey by Homer and Dante's Inferno (Canto XXVI ).
Ulysses is back from a long journey, he is in Itaca but he doesn't feel at home and despises his land, his people and his old wife, so he wants to travel again to return to feel alive.

The drammatic monologue was used by the writer to enfatize the tragic of human beens, and according to Ulysses the solution to give freedome to menkind is the Travel, in his deap meaning that is meating: new people; new govermens, new manners and in this way human people can drinking every drop of life. With traveling human can understund his self and the meaning of life.
