STREET CODE

Road safety is a serious matter. Nowadays we show serious gaps in this area. Every day in our roads lots of people dies and the causes are several: from high speed to phones and alcohol. Everyone has to follow the street code and improving road safety should be a prime objective of the transport policy. Unfortunately no technology can replace the driver’s fundamental responsibility to drive safely and adhere to the rules of the road. Street code must be known from everybody from early age.

Generally speaking, if we pay more attention and if we respect the laws more, probably we wouldn’t get hurt.

LISTENING UNIT 4

In the listening n.4 people talk in different situation and the topic of the discussion is crime and punishment. Today, crime is increasing and more and more youngsters are being involved not only in petty offences but also in serious criminal offences such as homicide. A man said it is really important doing self-defence courses, mainly for girls. They teach you various techniques to defend oneself against violence like vandalism, stealing and bullying. A policewoman told about how she feel worry about crime, because, despite being a police officer, considering that she is a woman, she is more at risk of aggression towards her. Another one, talking about young hackers, said teenage Internet users must know their limits. Cyberbullying is recently increased a lot: it fosters violence among young people and the humiliation of students and teachers. Cyberbullies use the new technologies to persecute their victims tormenting them even 24 hours a day through the web and mobile phones. A teacher finally told teenagers not to always obey their peers, because sometimes exactly your friends could lead you astray.

The listening teaches that everyone must always be careful and ready, because crime may be present round the corner. Not just criminals like serial killers, blackmailers, smugglers, muggers and thieves, but also baby gangs. Boys who are part of the gangs have often dropped out of school or aren’t followed, cared for and loved by their families. In these cases they need to show their authority, value, strength and superiority or hide emptiness to themselves. Therefore they represent a danger for everyone, from teenagers to adults and even elderly men.
