Summary (Listening Unit 4)

In this listening you can hear:

-someone interviewing a guy in a youth club. The interviewer asks him what does he think about teenagers who spend a lot of their time going out and roaming in the streets. The boy answers that  in his opinion staying in the streets for a long time is a waste of time,  besides it may be dangerous and  you may easily get involved in illegal acts. Instead he thinks that spending time in a creative way helps to develop close relationships.

-a man talking to the phone asking for information about a self-defence course to a woman. He wants to know how to face dangerous situations and how to cope with them. He also says that he has attended a survival course and it was great.

-a policewoman talking about crime. She says that she in constant risk indeed she comes upon muggers, robbers and other people like that. She has to arrest them and to yake them for fingerprinting, proof of identity and questioning. However what makes she very concerned is the dramatic rise of juvenile delinquency.

-a police inspector talking to a suspect of the murder, colonel Drake. He tells the policeman that he had just said good night to Mrs. Anderson when he heard the shots, so he ran upstairs to get his revolver from his bad, but he couldn’t find it. When he got went downstairs he found Professor Taylor and Mrs. Anderson  who was holding his gun.

-someone talking about a criminal act. The narrator says that it was night when suddenly a cry for help shattered the peace. A neighbor called 999 and when the police arrived they found a wounded man and an empty safe. The police detectives began searching for fingerprints, footprints, any clues that  would lead to the identification of the criminal.

-a lawyer talking about his client’s John Evans case. He says that his client has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, because he was accused of stealing a slice of pizza from some children, but he had two prior convictions for armed robbery and attempted arson. Indeed a law which passed last year requires longer prison sentences for criminals with two prior convictions.

-a interviewer asking someone what does he think about youngsters who are being involved in hacking. In his opinion more and more youngsters are becoming obsessed with hacking. They lose control of themselves when they manage to gain access to the data system at various companies. Most importantly a great number of them do it for fun without being aware of the serious problems they may cause.

-a teacher talking to teenagers. She tells them that when they go out, socialize and meet new people they should be careful with the people they get closer to. In her opinion they have to avoid becoming aggressive, doing what others do, being a member of a street gang or getting involved in criminal acts. She thinks they have to resist it whenever they feel that what they are doing is illegal or wrong and ask for their parents’ guidance, support and advice whenever they feel peer pressured.
