In the present text i am going to analyse Shakespeare's Sonnet 20, to discover the poet's message after a analysis of the text.

Looking at the title " A woman's face with nature's own hand painted" the reader understands that he or she is going to read something about a girl, especially a woman's face, which is probably going to be depicted by the narrator.

The poem is arranged into one single stanza of fourteen lines of different length, which are written in alternative rhymes.  After reading the text, the reader figures out that the language is occasionally archaic. Indeed, there are terms like "hast thou" which are not used anymore in everyday vocabulary .

The poem tell about a man who is described as a woman. Indeed, he has a "gentle heart", "bright eyes".Even though he is a man, he attracts women and men.

These aspects underlines the poem's themes which are   beauty and youth. The themes also can be found  in "the Picture of Dorian Gray".
