In present text I am going to analysis a poem of William Shakespeares, “A woman's face with nature's own hand painte” the sonnet number twenty.

First of all the reader notices the tittle is indenticall to the first line wich means the poem belong to a collection. From the tittle it can be thought the poem will be about a wounderful woman who the writer is probably in love with. Howeever by reading on the poem the reader realizes that the first impression was wrong.

Watching the lay-out the poem is arranged into only one stanza composed by fourteen lines with alternating rhyme scheme to exception to the last stanza, as if Shakespeare wants emphasize the importance of these lines.

From the denotation analysis the reader can understands that the poem is organized into three parts. In the first six lines the writer describe this beautiful woman and how she is different to other person. In the second six lines the reader realizes the woman who writer was talking in reality is a handsome man. In the last two lines Shakespeare lets to interpret to the reader that he loves this men, however his passion is not a sexual but “spiritual”.

Mooving on with the conotation analisy, there are not a lot of figures of speech, only two of them. In the seconf line Shakespeare uses a oximor “master mistress” to put the attention on the ambiguity on the person described. But the most important is the personification of Nature in lines: one, ten, and thirteen with which the writer anphazise the beauty of the men.
