The Importance of Note Taking

In the following paragraphs I am going to consider the importance of taking notes instead of having prepared notes given by the teacher.

First of all, is important to say that note taking is a fundamental skill because it contains lots of abilities that a student should have, for instance memorising, reasoning, analysing and listening.

It is clear that work on own notes implies a better proficiency that study on notes already prepared. Moreover note taking is a functional activity which will influence the results of other ones such as studying and memorising.

As a result of lots of researches, the best way to take notes is the graphical organisation which implies bulled points, arrows, symbols and abbreviations. This process allows the student to develop lots of abilities that are important not only at school but also in the work environment. Therefore note taking is a precious skill for life.

On the other hand, students can state that having prepared notes you can save your time and dedicate it to study. Wrong! Take notes is preparatory to study, as a consequence taking notes you are already studying.

Few weeks ago, at school, my peers and I worked on a project called “learning how to learn”. It was an experience that allowed me to analyse the importance of notes and how take them. It was particularly useful because it increased my awareness in note taking, turning on a mechanical way to a reasoning one.

To conclude, I strongly agree to spread the importance of note taking because learning how to take notes may change you view not only at school but in the ordinary life.
