TOPIC: Post-modernism and “normal people”

• aim: to develop reading strategies in order to find out more ---> reading between the lines

• what did you learn from this task that I asked you to carry out?

• How do we learn? The relationship with other people represents the occasion for us to grow

• what did you understand more of female nature? They need protection, they always need to be reassured, they look for reassurance

• typical female attitude ---> to hide interest

• why do people tend to hide emotions? Because revealing emotions means exposing weaknesses

• why male and female are different? The conception of man and woman affects man to be secure and strong and woman to be insecure and fragile

• why people relate in different way to other people? Because people always want to be accepted ---> I trust somebody and I'm not afraid of his/her judgment

• what is the worse thing in a relationship? Not to feel at the same level

• how often are you lonely? Whenever you thing of yourself

• feature of post-modernity ---> extreme self reflexivity

• irony and parody ---> when I joke speaking of myself I try to defend myself from my weaknesses

• retro ---> to re-consider the past ---> transformation

• what is normal? Normal ---> belonging to the conventional

• does the novel make you think that there is a self well made and defined? NO! POST-MODERNITY

• culture is a code by which everyone is affected

• fear of losing ---> we are very weak but at the same time we want to be free (contradiction between divinity and mortality)
