1. The chapter Four Months Later (July 2014) covers an important role in the economy of Sally Rooney’s novel Normal People since there the two protagonists, Connell and Marianne, are reflecting about steps of their relationship. The chapter starts with the description of the situation: Connell and Marianne are in his room. Therefore there is a stop in the narration. While Connell is totally absorbed by the football match on tv, Marianne is bored and is looking for his attention. 2. The main themes cover in the present chapter are the development of a love relationship, the physical and psychological violence, jealousy and bullying. 3. Connell and Marianne even though do not have a balance and stable relationship, are growing together. Now, Marianne is aware that “Connell has been growing slowly more adjusted to the world” while she considers herself as a terrible person. 4. The narrator uses mostly the body language that contributes in the best way to express the intimate and personal feelings. The narrator also adapts the language to the situation. The violent episode of Marianne and her brother Alan shows a language more vulgar ang gross that conveys in an efficacious way the violent approach that Alan has on Marianne.
