What is an argumentative text? An essay

What makes a text argumentative text? The expression of a thesis

What is it made of? It is made of:

  • an introduction: intentions + thesis + textual organization;
  • a main body: different argumentations of the thesis divided in paragraphs. The argumentations could be examples, which can contain quantitative data or qualitative data;
  • a conclusion: reaffirmation of the thesis

Coherence: to develop a logical thread

Cohesion: to give meaning and fluency to the text

  • What does the narrator give the reader? The narrator sets the atmosphere (Victor’s bedroom);
  • What do you think the 1st person narrator wants to give the effect of? The narrator wants to give a sexual effect expressed by sexual expressions, touch, taste, half-lighted room;
  • “like a mother”: the narrator gives to Victor, a male character, a female feature;
  • Half-lighted room: you see the shape only and therefore there is a mysterious atmosphere which rises the love because we fall in love with the people we don’t know completely, with the mysterious ones;
  • Victor’s bed: synecdoche of Victor (una parte per il tutto).
  • “He makes us a world”: metaphor. The sentence suggests a totalizing relationship because the world is international and incorporates everything;
  • The sense of coherence is expressed by the actions carried out by Victor who likes man, but he acts like a woman.
