“Frenkissstein, A Love Story” written by Jenette Winterson is divided into two stories: the first tells about Mary Shalley’s story and how she wrote “Frenkestein” and the second tells about atificial intelligence and human development. The first story ends with Mary’s critique of the society of her time. After the death of Mary’s husband, she comes to England and here she criticizes woman condition in the eighteenth century. Mary is invited at Ada’s party (Byron’s daughter) and here “New mechanical patent novel-writer” is presented. There is a discussion about machine: they can not replace human being because only humans create poetry. The second story ends with Ron, Claire, Polly D. and Ry who are looking for Victor in the Manchester laboratory. They don’t find he because Victor is probably busy with artificial intelligence. In the last chapter there is a irony about heart: someone considers the heart the center of life, but you find it at the butcher at a low price. The last two quotation that we find are: “Humanity is not a stead-sistem” and “Nor dies the spirit but new life repeats in other forms and only changes seats”. This quotations anticipated the meaning of the chapter and bring the message of the novel. Humans beings are not in a stead sistem but they are in a constant evolution. With human intelligence, people have always tried to create something innovative. Starting with Mary who criticized society of eighteenth century to bring social changes. To get to Victor who want to change the human body with artificial intelligence. How far will man with intelligence go and what will man remain? Today there is still no answer. |
