The modern artists broke with the tradition and tried to express this break thought new forms and subjects in their works. They tried to express a new modern form of nature and used new techniques. In poetry, they used a free verse and obscure symbols also they’re unconscious but tried to reflect on the complexity of the world. Modernist are not only in poverty but also in musica and art, that is more squared and without any sense.

Gabriel’s epiphany


1. Gabriel was thinking about Gretta’s past love, Micheal
2. Because he thought about her first beauty as a teenager and how she was like

4. Because he thought about the moment when they left the house after the party and he remained Aunt Julia that she would be soon a shade
5. He tried to found different words to express his sad emotions and feelings for Julia’s death but he found they only lame and useless

10. The main theme of the passage is the death, that is not underlined mostly at the beginning of the text but only during Gabriel’s epiphany the concept of death, passed away is highlight through the snow that covers all.

He stands up when a light turns him to the window and he sees the snow: he sees the flakes, silver and dark, falling down slowly.

5. When Gretta starts sleeping, Gabriel starts to think about her past beauty before becoming his wife and thinks about her relationship with Micheal. Emotions of an hour before start to pass all over his body: he thought about what they had at Gabriel aunt’s house and thought about aunt’s Julia that passed away. When the air in the room chills his shoulders he stars thinking about past memories with her wife. When starts to snow, he wakes up and starts thinking about negative aspects of life: death
