The object of the present text is to provide my interpretation of Frankissstein, a Postmodern novel written by Jeanette Winterson in 2019. Textual references and analysis will be the method forstering reflections since no-defined answers will be provided. To start with, the title reminds to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein of 1816-1818. The reader may understand the novel is a science fiction one. Since the title is formed by the words “Fran” “kiss” and “Stein”, it provides to the reader the idea that the novel may be a love story between two people. Moving now to covers, there are a front and a back one. According to the front cover, the reader notices a blue wallpaper (blue could remind a mysterious sensation or something unknowable) with red and fuchsia writings. Red may refer to blood and so to life’s essence and fuchsia is the symbol of inspiration and sensuality. Moreover, the front cover presents a white line covered by three red X. They may be stitches to cicatrize. The words “a love story” are written in small. The love story is not the novel’s main topic. Turing the book, the reader focuses his attention on the back cover. It is also blue with red and fuchsia writings. It presents the quotation “I AM WHAT I AM, BUT WHAT I AM IS NOT ONE THING, NOT ONE GENDER. I LIVE WITH DOUBLENESS”. It makes clear identifying human beings’ multiple life-style is one of the novel’s topic. According to the title and covers, the intelligent reader understands the novel is a revisitation of Frankenstein. Consequently, it conveys an influence between past and present. The novel is so a creation of something new. Another novel’s topic is the love story between two people. It is difficult to understand if there are a man and a girl, or two men or two girls only reading the title. Indeed, after looking covers one understands the novel is based on doubleness and duality. Opening the book, there is quotation. It says “We may lose and we may win though we will never be here again”. The quotation belongs to the song “Take It Easy” written by Eagles, a rock band from Los Angeles born in Seventeens. The quotation’s meaning may be that people’s life can be great or not, but anyway it starts when you born and ends when it decides to end. It is impossible to live an eternal life. From the quotation the reader could understand novel’s main topic may be about developing a sort of eternal life.
