SECOND CHAPTER:

- Domestic violence: her brother Alan attacks Marianne trying to block her before she can go out => principal problem that Marianne has  to face in the family is the domestic violence thought which she was submitted and raped not only by her brother but also by her father

- 1st flashback: Rooney to descrive the first flashback uses Marianne’s point of view through which she describes Connell’s final football game, in particular Connell’s body and attitudes

- Book’s references: “The Communist Manifesto” “The Fire Next Time”. During their conversation, Books are the real protagonists because both like reading: but Marianne likes reading in public whereas Connell (since he’s the most popular boy at school) he doesn’t want to make public his pleasure for books.

- Rooney underlines at the end of the flashback the first kiss between the two protagonists since Marianne was able to open and express her feelings towards Connell

- the chapter concludes with the image of Marianne who goes to Connell’s house for the first time and underlines Connell’s fear to be chase from his peers indeed he wants to mantiene setter his relationship with Marianne for fear of his peers’ judgements.
