ALBATROSS The albatross is a large bird. He is very good at flying. Thanks to its imposing wings it manages to glide in the air without difficulties. The albatross spends most of the time in the air. It come ashore only to breed. The activity occurs in colonies that are usually established on remote oceanic island where groups and pairs exhibit meeting behaviour. The single large white egg is incubated by the parents in turn. The growth of the young albatross is very slow, especially in the larger species. It attains flight plumage in 3-10 months, then spends 5-10 years before before coming adult. An albatross lives a very long time. |
